Birmingham Stabbing Today – 17-Year-Old Injured as 16-Year-Old Arrested

A 16-year-old boy has been arrested following a reported stabbing that left another teenager injured in Birmingham city centre.

The incident happened on Cannon Street at around 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, September 16. A 17-year-old boy was reportedly attacked and subsequently taken to hospital for treatment. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

Police later arrested a 16-year-old on suspicion of wounding. The teenager remains in police custody while detectives continue questioning him as part of the investigation.

Detectives from Birmingham CID are working to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and determine what led to the confrontation.

Detective Sergeant Ross Somerfield said officers understand the concerns the incident has caused in the local community and believe it was an isolated incident. Police are carrying out proactive patrols in the area and speaking with local business owners as part of efforts to provide reassurance.

Authorities are also appealing to members of the public who were in the area at the time of the stabbing. Police believe there were many people nearby when the incident occurred and are asking anyone who witnessed what happened or may have relevant phone or CCTV footage to come forward.

Investigators have urged anyone with information, regardless of how minor it may appear, to share it with police.

The investigation remains ongoing, while the 16-year-old suspect continues to be held in custody. The injured 17-year-old remains at the centre of the incident, although his injuries are currently understood not to be life-threatening.
